Ihram – Entering the State of Purity

Begin your sacred journey by entering the state of Ihram before reaching Makkah. Make your intention (niyyah) for Umrah, wear the prescribed clothing, and recite the Talbiyah:

“Labbayka Allahumma Umrah” – “Here I am, O Allah, for Umrah.”

Tawaf – Circumambulation of the Kaaba

Upon arriving at Masjid al-Haram, perform Tawaf — circling the Kaaba seven times in an anti-clockwise direction. Start each round from the Black Stone (Hajr al-Aswad). After completing Tawaf, offer two rak‘ahs of prayer near Maqam Ibrahim if possible and drink Zamzam water.

Sa’i – Walking Between Safa and Marwah

Next, perform Sa’i by walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, commemorating the devotion of Hajar (AS). Men should walk briskly between the green markers, while women walk at a normal pace.

Halq or Taqsir – Shaving or Trimming Hair

To complete Umrah, pilgrims exit the state of Ihram by cutting their hair:

Men: Preferably shave the head (Halq) or shorten it (Taqsir).

Women: Trim a small portion (about a fingertip length) from each braid.

Ziyarah of Madinah – Visiting the Prophet’s Mosque

Visiting Madinah Munawwarah is a deeply spiritual experience and highly recommended. Pilgrims travel to Masjid an-Nabawi, the second holiest mosque in Islam, to offer prayers, send salutations (salaam) upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and visit sacred sites such as Jannat al-Baqi, Quba Mosque, and Uhud.
